An alternative pathway for nitric oxide production in plants: new features of an old enzyme.

چکیده
compounds, the identification of the cofactor in the AOs was not an easy task, involving derivatization of the enzyme-bound cofactor with carbonyl reagents to form a stable adduct, followed by detailed characterization of active site cofactor-containing peptides using spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy and NMR (Ref. 9). Consistent with these advances on AOs and related quinoproteins, the possibility that PQQ or a closely related quinonoid compound (such as TPQ) might be bound at the CKO active site has recently been addressed.

متن کاملNitric Oxide Functions; an Emphasis on its Diversity in Infectious Diseases
Nitric oxide is a short-lived mediator, which can be induced in a variety of cell types and produces many physiologic and metabolic changes in target cells. It is important in many biological functions and generated from L-arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase. Nitric oxide conveys a variety of messages between cells, including signals for vasorelaxation, neurotransmission and cytotoxici...
متن کاملNitric oxide in plants: production and cross-talk with Ca2+ signaling.
Nitric oxide (NO) is a diatomic gas that performs crucial functions in a wide array of physiological processes in animals. The past several years have revealed much about its roles in plants. It is well established that NO is synthesized from nitrite by nitrate reductase (NR) and via chemical pathways. There is increasing evidence for the occurrence of an alternative pathway in which NO product...
